Six Months, Six Things

Goals for 2017 - live a fulfilling life, filled with adventures, love and growth. | The Good Living Blog #quotes #goals #adventures

Is it just me or does it seem like time flies by much faster now that we are adults? I don’t remember this kind of “time is flying” sentiment when I was in school, or even in college, for that matter. It seems to have made a near permanent mark in my active consciousness only in the last couple of years.

Whether you look at it with a feeling of dread or that of joy, reality is, six months of this year are over. Let that sink in for a minute. Six months. Gone.

Instead of dwelling on all those things I didn’t do in the last six months, I am instead choosing to focus on things that I plan to do in the next six months, things that are achievable, have an element of a challenge and overall, would be great for me – physically and creatively (there are some more personal and work-related goals, which I am not getting into here).

Needless to say, I am excited about this half-year goals list, if you will. And I hope that by the end of the year, I’ve got much progress to report.

1 | Fitness, Fitness, Fitness – There is no other way of saying this – I’ve put on a fair bit of weight in the last 12-18 months. Yes, I know my weight does not define me and all that body positivity jazz, but here’s the thing – I don’t like all this extra weight. I don’t like how it makes me look. And even more importantly, I don’t like how it makes me feel so very unhealthy.

Now, I’ve been working towards improving my overall fitness since the beginning of the year, but I don’t feel like I have 100% committed to this yet. I’m planning on tweaking my eating and exercise habits over the next few weeks, and I am looking forward to the results! 🙂

I do have a few specific fitness related goals in mind (hold a plank for 5 minutes; run at a stretch for 20 minutes (DO NOT laugh – it is a big f*cking deal for me!); do 25 pushups at one go; etc. etc.), which I plan to attain over the next six months, but really, what I am truly kicked about is creating a balanced and healthy lifestyle for once and for all!

2 | Visit 2 museums and 2 galleries in Mumbai – I’ve never been an art or history junkie, but of late, I find myself enjoying these aspects of culture, and I am keen to explore more. In all these years of living in Mumbai, I’ve never once visited any of the museums or galleries that the city boasts of (*hangs head in shame*). Anyway, I’m keeping my eyes peeled for interesting exhibits and shows, and I think I am going to enjoy the experience.

3 | Launch my shop – Ah, my shop. This word means so many things to me. A rather latent dream of mine is to someday open a brick and mortar shop, stocking curios from across the world, quirky accessories, and quality home décor pieces. While that particular dream might be many, many, many years away from realization (if ever, at all), in the meanwhile, I am excited about creating an online shop for two of my other passions in life – memory keeping and journaling.

Because while CREATING & LIVING a good life should be the priority, recording it provides a sense of permanence, a touch-point for the future, and believe me, there’s a whole lot of merit in that. I’ve been working hard on the designs, and hope to launch sometime in the next couple of weeks.

4 | Travel to least 1 new place – This doesn’t even need any explanation. In the last few years, travel has truly set my mind and heart on fire. It’s almost like I am making up for my lack of travel for most of my 20s (probably my only regret about life so far). I love the whole excitement of discovery and the memories made, even if that means finding a new place to eat at a place as cliché as Goa, or discovering a seafood heaven in Murud, or marvelling at the twinkling lights of the Eiffel tower, or going on a completely different travel experience like a safari.

I’ve got lots of places in mind (Iceland, Morocco, Sri Lanka and Pondicherry are the ones that first come to my mind), and AT and I are sort of leaning towards one place in particular… let’s see. I am hoping we can make it happen.

5 | Go on a photo walk once a month – I’ve tried doing a Project 365 AND a Project 52. None of those stuck. So I am going even simpler. Once a month to explore parts of Bombay via my camera. I have a lovely camera that captures unbelievably gorgeous colours, but I really don’t use it unless I’m on vacation. Which is so unfortunate. Planning to take that little baby out for some explorations around the city.

6 | Create a “Bombay” guide on the blog – This has been on my mind ever since I started blogging, which was FIVE years ago (admittedly in bursts and phases). Anyway, for all it’s many flaws, Bombay is a city I love, and I’d love to showcase my favourite bits about the city on the blog.

And just for fun (:)) – a few things that I did achieve in the last six months (most of which I think I should simply file under #adulting!!!):

BEING ABLE TO TOUCH MY TOES (I swear I couldn’t do this till about two months ago!!!) • CREDIT CARD DEBT PAID OFF • TRAVELLED TO ONE NEW COUNTRY • DID A THOROUGH WARDROBE AUDIT • WENT A FULL MONTH WITHOUT BUYING NEW CLOTHES • HAD KALE FOR THE FIRST TIME • STARTED USING FACE SERUMS & A RETINOID PRODUCT

What about you guys? How are your goals for 2017 shaping up? What’s been your biggest achievement so far, and what are your major goals for the next six months? I’d love to know in the comments below.
